Illustrations that aren't "square"

What do we do about illustrations that aren't "square" so you can't draw a box around them? I encountered an illustration that went around and on the side of a paragraph and it wasn't just decoration.

If you can draw a box that fits as close as possible - it's ok to include a bit of text in the box as well.

Does "a bit" extend to a whole paragraph?

Text in the box is fine - even a paragraph. As long as the box is attempting to identify the image as closely as possible, then in many cases text will have to be part of it.

Thanks for asking the question and the answers as I have been wondering about this too. I try and draw the box around the image as closely as I can including any captions with the image. Sometimes this does mean the box also includes text from the actual article. Good to know I'm doing this correctly!
