    This is brilliant! Someone with very set ideas there. 😃 I have a feeling this might have resulted in Manchester's Southern Cemetery, the largest in the UK. I used to cycle past this regularly as a student and remember its ornate Victorian monuments. #dailyzoo

    EDIT - Given the date of the journal (1833) this is more likely to be Manchester General Cemetery (which opened in 1837). Southern Cemetery opened some 40 years later.

    This is why I find that text pages are sometimes as interesting as the illustrations - there's lots of social history in there. I know they can be easily digitised by OCR but if we weren't served these up I would never seek them out - or spend half an hour learning about Victorian cemeteries in Manchester! 😉
