    Latin abbreviations! Such fun.

nat could be a few things, but 'Naturalist' is probably the best fit, and 'del et lith' is definitely 'drawn and lithographed' in this context. So it would be 'Drawn and Lithographed by Naturalist A. S. Foord'

    Thanks Quia!

Other Latin terms are explained in the help section, and hopefully all of the eventualities are covered. Click on the '?' button in the classifying screen and that will pop up a black box to the left with four tabs: 'Type' 'Keywords' "Tagging' and 'Latin terms'.

Thanks for being so through Kosmala.

Are you sure ad nat is not "Drawn from nature" ie. Drawn from the object itself, not from a picture.

yes JaneJ you are correct - drawn from nature or drawn from life as opposed to drawn from a surrogate
